Opening database gives error

Hi,

I have a database which is split to give two files (a front end file with the forms / code and a back end file with the tables).

I have copied these files from one server to another and re-linked the tables, however now whenever I open the database I get a message stating that Access cannot 'find the file or one of its components and to check the filename, path and required libraries'.

However, if I open the database while holding down shift (to stop the main menu form and code starting automatically) and the manually open the main form, the database works ok?

'Compact and Repair' results in the same error when the database tries to reopen. I have also tried running a /decompile switch from the command line however Access then locks up.

I thought that when the files have copied over they have corrupted but when I have copied over fresh versions the problem still exists.

I just wanted to see if anyone else has come across this before.

It sounds as though the database is running a macro or some other code upon startup. Look for a macro named "autoexec". If there is one, check it out. There may be a specific path reference in one of the statements.

If no autoexec macro, but a form opens automatically, check out the form's events.

Theres no autoexec macro however there is a form that launches when the database opens and this has an 'on open' event that calls a module that initialises screens and variables. Neither of these objects have any path references in them and the events are ok.

Also, I should have mentioned in my original post that once you click on 'ok' to get rid of the error message, the database then opens and operates correctly.

Also, just having a further look at it, if I try to open a query in design mode I get an out of MS_DOS handles error message?

You've got something twisted. Try creating a new blank database and import all the objects of your current database into it. Do not import linked tables. Link them after you have the other object imported. Also, if you have any import or export specifications, you need to go to import options and select such or those won't be imported - even if you select "Import All Objects".

Yes, that's the route I'm just about to head down - was hoping I could avoid this though!
