My first Post...I have both 7.0 and CS8.0 installed on my Mac...I can open a Photoshop file in 7.0 by clicking the image icon, but in CS 8.0 I can only open a file by using the Open menu...
Is this a conflict because I have two versions of Photoshop installed....
Any Ideas...

I'm a PC guy, but this may also apply to macs: There can be only one "default" application that opens a specific file type. You can define which application you want to use, but there can be only one. If you want to use CS 8 instead of CS 7, you must tell the system that. How you do that on a mac I don't know, but on a PC you right click the icon of the file you want to open, choose "Open With" from the context menu, select the application from the list of available applications, click the "always use this application to open this file type" checkbox, then click OK. From then on, clicking the icon will invoke the new application.

Hope this is useful.

I had the same thing. A reinstall of PS solved it.

Hi,

When you want a certain file to be opened by default by a certain program you select a file and go to Finder>file>Open with.

If your favourite app isn't in the list go to the bottom and there you will find 'Other' Browse to your favourite app and select it.

Now this sort of file will a&lways be opened with the photoshop version of your choice.

Another option is to select your file and drag it to the photoshop icon of your choice in your dock.

hope this helps

Carlow: Sometimes things go bump in the night. I had jpg, tiff, etc set to open in PS. After downloading an OSX update PS wouldn't open them other than through the File/Open command - after resetting the various format to open in PS. The reinstall was the fix.

Maybe you could save your files with a modified suffix that is flagged to cs8.
