I need to put an opening balance on a report which a summation of my debits and credits for transactions prior to my from date parameter.Anyone with an idea?

Group by date-range, two groups, "Before From-Date" and "Main". For "Before From-Date", suppress the detail lines and just show the totals.

This could also be done by a subreport in the group header, but selecting and then suppressing should be quicker.

It helps to give your Crystal version - 8, 8.5, 9, 10, 11 or whatever. Methods sometimes change between versions, and higher versions have extra options. In this case, it probably makes no difference.

I have tried to avoid the subreport because the report is to be used by non-IT people so I have done the report below but It's not returning anything.

if {@Date}<{?From Date} then Sum ({@Amount Debit})+Sum ({@Amount Credit})

We have developed a "Share" function library which can be used to save data between reports or between different runs of a report. You can download a trial version from our web site, and check out our newsletter where there is an example of an "Opening Balance" report.

You must include the dates that generate the opening balance in your selection formula for your conditional formula to work.
