Opening Attachments through EXH 5.5 OWA

Normal operation (using OWA Exch 5.5) when opening attachments uses the Internet Explorer Plug-in i,e, an excel or word attachment opens INSIDE internet explorer, not in excel or word.
I would like the attachments to open in the appropriate application, e.g .doc would open in Word, .xls would open in Excel.

Can this happen?

That's a Windows file type function, not really a server side thing. Try this:

Tools / Folder Options / click on the File Types tab / Click Advanced button for DOC filetype.

There should be a checkbox in here that says "Browse in same window". Uncheck that.

That's a little cumbersome. There may be a way to control that setting globally, but it sounds to me like this is a behavior problem on the pc rather than on the Exchange/owa server.
