When I try to open an excel file on my desktop (stored on the desktop) it takes minutes to open.
However, if I open Excel first then open the file it's instantaneous as it should be.
Same thing happens in Word.
Have uninstalled Office 2003 and reinstalled to no avail. Any suggestions??

You probbbbbably have an anti-virus prog installed. If it's Norton, their site has a solution to improve the speed.

Others probably have similar sort of help

No I've tried uninstalling the A/V on the machine but that's no good either.

Is the file on the desktop actually on a network drive?

Gerry

Try renaming your xlb file.

Renaming the file will remove any customization added to Excel; such as extra Toolbar icons.
