This might seem a really silly question, Access 2003 trying to open a database from within my documents folder when the database opens it opens in a designed form ready for information to be put into it.

How do I open the database so I can edit the structure and see the box that shows all the tables in it, queries, reports, forms instead ? All I seem to be able to do is open this one form but not see the tables created so I can modify the structure.

I thought there was a key combination like hold down the shift key when opening the database in my documents, but cannot for the life of me work out what I am doing wrong.

I have also tried loading Access 2003 and then going to file and open but I get the same thing, I still cannot edit the tables. The only thought I have is if the database was perhaps an earlier version say Access 97 and Access 2000 would this cause an issue?

Any ideas what I am doing wrong ?? As its bugging me big time! Thanks

Press f11 when you have the database open. If that doesn't work, you might need to hold shift when you are opening it as well.

Hope this helps,

Alex

Thanks Alex for the suggestion, I did F11 it came up with what looked like a blank database even though it was opened. Which caused another problem. I managed to solve it though. A user had minimsed the window then moved the box so you couldn't see it on the screen. I had to move the scroll bars up and down, left and right both of which didn't move very well. I found the box eventually and maximised it now it opens fine. I have advised the user to use the hide option in the window menu instead of dragging off the screen !!

Sounds like you have a db where any and all users can get into the design and goof around in there. Are you sure that's what you want?

Good point GingerR believe it or not its just the one user who uses it and has created it. However I think I will change it so they cannot alter the design !! Thanks PCmad
