Opening a Word Doc

I am creating a start up where one of the buttons opens an MS Word doc. It seems that Director needs to know what application to use and where (drive letter) it's located. Is there a workaround for this? I mean, if you double-click on a Word doc in Windows Explorer the document will automatically open. Is there a way I can make my Director executable
