I schedule a report to run over night and email this to a user in excel format. When I look at the history for this report it show's the format at Excel as I would expect. Is there any way in which I can open this instance in Crystal Reports?

Hi,
Since it is in Excel format, you can only open it in Excel ( or an Excel compatible spreadsheet)..

The original report can be run, of course, or set to run in CR format.

Excel file formats are not compatible with Crystal.

I have on occasion had to schedule a report twice because we want a local copy in Crystal format, yet an exported version in another format.

This is what I thought, not what I expected to see though, having to run the report twice is becoming a nightmare for me, hope Business Objects can change this for future release's.

Thanks for all you help

Hi,
Change what?
Multiple export formats at the same time?
( just as much work for the server as running it twice).

Have Crystal somehow read an Excel spreadsheet?
( It can, if a Database is defined in the Spreadsheet ).

But it is expecting a lot to have Crystal open an Excel
spreadsheet, as is.( I don't expect my Word program to be able to open a Crystal report)

You might write an app to run the report and then export it to 2 different formats, it should prove faster.

Here's the CSP example apps:

Check:

CE85_Schedule_Disk.zip

You could have a link to schedule the report to 2 different formats, but as Turk stated, it's the same processing as what you're doing now.

if you just want to see the instance that was sent out to your user (via email), why don't you just add yourself to the email distribution as well? This will save you the time of having to run it twice.

Also...not sure what version your using, but I just scheduled a report to EXCEL in version 10, and I was able to view the instance within CE...in EXCEL format. You may need to install the Microsoft Office Add-in to Crystal Enterprise.

I've tried to follow but got moe confused.

If I create a Crystal Report, Report.rpt, then I can only save it as a report, right?

Now I can export the results of a Crystal report in various formats, including Excel. Is this what we are discussing? At least, that's what I think you are trying to do.

Does the user need the results on an Excel spread sheet or are we talking about invoking another Crystal report that uses the exported Excel you sent to them and create another report?

What does the user need?

wichitakid,

When scheduling a report to run in Crystal Enterprise, you have the option of having it run (export) an instance as Excel, Word, XML, etc. When you see all the instances of that "scheduled" report, some may be in .rpt, .xml., etc.

The problem here was that PauloMongo could not view those instances where the report was exported as Excel.

As far as the user needing it in EXCEL...well, that would depend...we have some reports scheduled to run in EXCEL because the end user wants to manipluate the data via 'pivot tables'.

Hope that helps.

Ahhhh Sooo

Thanks DallasAggie,

In that case, I would just add myself on the distribution list rather than having to run it again.

Thanks for all your help, but my problem is that I schedule the report to run and email in excel, I want through in future to open that instance in CRYSTAL and not EXCEL. The only current option without bespoke programming is to run the report twice, once in excel and once in Crystal. Does any body know of a way in seeing the filters, (select expert) used when exporting the report to Excel.

Thanks
