Opening a formatted word document

I have a user that is trying to open a custom formatted word document (basically its for labels). If she uses Word, file open, the document opens but all of the formatting and graphics are messed up. If she goes to Explorer, finds the file, and opens it from explorer (double clicks the file which automatically launches Word) the document opens and the formatting is correct. This is happening with multiple documents on her PC. Other PC's do not have this problem, using the same documents. Any ideas?
Windows 95b
Office 97 SR2

Have her hit File-Open and change the "documents of type" to Word docs instead of Recover text from any file. (probably)

I'll have her try it.
Thanks.
