I have one Access 97 application that was set up using the Access workgroup file for security. Until now all the users have been using Access 97, but we're now seeing enough Access 2000 users that I need to run the Access 2000 conversion utility to make a 2000 version. However, even though I've selected the workgroup file (rather than the default system.MDW file) before starting Access 2000 and the database, I can't get the security login window. As a result I can't open the database. How can I start the database when Access 2000 is set to load and get the correct workgroup to be used so there is a log in?

The easiest way is to create an shortcut to point to your workgroup file and database, below is a sample of one i use for my databases

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\msaccess.exe" /wrkgrp "O:\System\Chauffeurs.MDW" "C:\Program Files\Chauffeur Services\Chauffeur Services.mdb"

if you create a standard shortcut and modify it to contain something simular to the above string, you will have to modify the path for the Workgroup and database and tyhis should work, if you have problems let me know what the path of your workgroup and Database are and I will create you a shortcut.

Gavin,

Well, that does force the login to occur, but I still can't convert the 97 database to 2000 because Access claims I don't have permissions....yet this is the MDW file I use to open the DB in Access 97 and upgrade it, etc.

I have a 97 db file created with a work group.. I still have the login and password...but i have lost the mdw file... and cannot recreate the proper work group file... with the proper permissions... any ideas of to re create the workgroup file, or finding the workgroup name used forthe file.
