I am running 7.0 on a Mac with OX in classic mode. I have a bunch of 6.0 files I would like to open and convert.

When I double click the file icon, it launched Photoshop, then says Photoshop can not open the file.

If I go to "open" in the file menu of PM7, the files do not show up in the box. Only folders show up. If I open a folder that contains 6.0 files, it is empty.

The adobe help site says I should be able to open them this way. This situation happens on two different Macs.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks
Jay

BigJaye,
I am using same OS. I still am converting 5.0 to 6.5. I should be the same way. Open 7.0, go to file and hit open. Go to where you have the file save in 6.0. Double click on it. It should start converting it. You will have to give it a new name because it just says untitled. I always save my old file and make sure that the newer version saved it ok. Then I delete the old.

That does not work. Any other suggestions?

Hi, BigJayE,

1."When I double click the file icon, it launched Photoshop,"
2. "If I go to "open" in the file menu of PM7, the files do not show up in the box. Only folders show up"

Everything you say suggests that the files in question are not PM files, or at least not associated with Pagemaker.

As raywv says, PM7 will open PM5, PM6, PM6.5 and PM7 file formats without problem.

I don't know enough about Macs to check file and application associations.

If you feel you are getting nowhere, try posting in AdobeForums PM Mac at:

I have two Macs on my desk. One is a G3 running Pagemaker 6.0, the other is an Emac running 7.0. I really don't want to use 7.0, but 6.0 will not run on this e-mac using OX 10.3.4.

I can take a file that I have created in 6.0, it has the Yellow "P" logo with the small box that says 6.0 in it, off of the G3, put it on the emac, PM logo still there, but 7.0 can not see it. I can open them on any Mac running 6.0, but not either of my Macs running OX and 7.0 ( in classic mode)

Wish I could figure out how to make 6.0 run on the e-mac, then I wouldn't even bother with 7.0.

I'm not conversant with the finer points of Macs, but I found this in the PM Support KB at :

Mac OS:
Adobe PageMaker 7.0 - "Opening publications created in previous PageMaker versions"

To open PageMaker 6.5x for Mac OS publications, use the File > Open command.
To open PageMaker 6.0x for Mac OS publications in Mac OS, choose Utilities > Plug-ins > Publication Converter.
Looks like you have to convert the PM6 files…

John;
That worked. When the publication converter was done. it had added.P65 after ea file, and now 7.0 sees them and can open them.

What I found ironic it that I went into my G3 and opened a 6.0 file in 6.0 and did a save as. One option was to save a copy in 5.0 format. I tried that, and 7.0 could read that file. It would read 5.0, but not 6.0. files.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

I never did understand Macs, and avoid big ones at all times!
