open word template in seperate instance of word

I'm after creating a hyperlink which will open a word template *.dot but rather than open it in IE it should open a seperate instance of Word..

Is this possible?

Create a shortcut that points to the template. Make your HTML link point to the shortcut instead of the template. The double indirection fools Windows into opening Word.

Warning: this only works if the end users have UNC type access the the folder where the template resides.
