Hello,

When I send a link out of MOSS to a Word doc and click on the link, I can only open the doc in IE to view. But not to edit. How can I edit the doc and save it again in MOSS?

Thanks
Marc

Hello,

It works the same way as in WSS v2 and SPS 2003, from the dropdown menu chose Edit in Microsoft ....

If you simply click the document name it will only open up as read only.

Or is it so that when you chose Edit in Microsoft... from a dropdown menu it opens it up in IE as read only aswell?

Cheers,
Thomas

Hello Thomas,

the problem appears after sending a link. Say I create a Word doc in MOSS and save it there in a Shared Doc area. Then I use the drop down menu to email a link to this doc to you. If you click then on the link in your email the browser opens and not the Word application. You can view the doc, you can make changes but you can´t save the changes unless you use the "sav under" command but then you have to know the complete path to your Teamsite because default storage point is then "own files".

Thanks
Marc

Hello Marc,

OK see your problem. The thing is that when you send the link to a document in an e-mail it is sedning a direct link to the document itself (i.e when a user clicks the link it will open up as read only (this was the same in SPS 2003). It is the same as if you click the document name only in SharePoint and not chosing edit in Microsoft ...

It does not matter if you open it up in IE or in Word by going directly to your document it will still be read only. You can change the settings (cant remember exactly where you change that setting, but it's eitehr in IE or in Windows), so that the document is not opened in IE, but in word instead. But I am not sure that you will be able to edit it any way since it still will open up as read-only.

Cheers,
Thomas
