Is there a way to skip slots when installing cards in the cabinet?

Meaning, I have a magix that I am setting up. It has two cabinets, and only 3 412 LS-ID boards in the first cabinet.. The merlin messaging would go next, but they would like to put it in the second cabinet to allow for growth down the line.

It's really no big deal to but it as the 4th card in the first cabinet, i was just trying to do as they origianlly asked.

You could "busy out" the empty slots or prograput phantom boards - but it is not recommended. I would just in stall the messaging unit in the next available slot and move it over when their needs grow. The only reprogramming involved would be to renumber the voicemail ports - which is no big deal. You can simplify the future growth needs by numbering the voicemail ports in a different range from their extensions. For example, if their extension numbering starts with 100 - number the voicemail ports in the 500 range. That way you leave yourself plenty of room for future extension numbering - with minimal reprogramming hassle.

That's what I thought. Thanks for the quick response.

Well, you gotta' be careful about that stuff.

If I was attempting to do what you want to do, I would first busy out slot 3, then move it to slot 4, then busy it out there, then move it to slot 5, and busy it out there and THEN, put my Messaging in slot 6.

Next, I would put the 412 I was dinging with that was last in slot 5 BACK to slot 3 and then restore it.

But I think you are just asking for trouble.

AS IN - what if the next 2 cards they purchase ARE NOT 412 Modules????

Legend/Magix DOES NOT LIKE having modules swapped around.

You can spend DAYS/WEEKS straightening out problems created by swapping modules.

Why not just leave the mail in the 4th slot and add any additional cards to the right of it. You can renumber the extensions so it won't mess up your dial plan, and once the cover is on, it looks the same regardless of what is where.

That's what I did. I put it in the fourth slot and renumbered the ports to 500-511 (its a 12 port vm).

I just leave the voice mail ports in the setup space numbering (7100 range).Just label them V.M 1, V.M 2 .....
