I recently was put in charge of a small MS Exchange 2000 server in this small company. About 40 users.

I am looking for places to go to read about the details of the Open Sessions object under the SMTP Virtual Server. I have specific questions but I'm the type of person who likes to read documentation so I don't have to ask basic questions. I have googled the net and read various things but all the information is quite basic when it comes to the Open Sessions object.

Anyone have a tip as to where I can go to read up on this?

Thank you.

Thank you for the article link. I am most of the way through the article. It seems to give the standard 2 sentence blurb about the open sessions object. I don't know if when I see connections in the open sessions object that are lasting over 900 seconds if this is something to worry about. Are the opens session connections both in bound and out bound i.e. relay and standard inbound email? Is a connection of over 900 seconds a spammer doing a dictionary blast on every possible combination of names to my users? I'm hoping to find an article that talks about these types of issues for the open sessions object.

Thank you for your help. I really appreciate your efforts.
