I have just started working with an SBS 2000 server that is running Exchange 2000. I am having what I think is an open relay problem.
Badmail is filling up and I have a lot of queues. I have tried to follow the instructions from Microsoft "How to block open SMTP relaying and clean up Exchange Server SMTP queues in Windows Small Business Server" article 324958. However, when I try to connect to SMTP using telnet open sbs-IP-address 25 I get a failure to connect message. I have tried to connect to the server using both internal and external computers and get the same result.
I have read that a lot of NDR emails maybe be just a question of being spoofed and not necessarily an open relay.
Is there a setting in Exchange I can make in order to connect to port 25 and carry out the tests?
Thank You.
