Does anyone know how to clear tbe open recent menu in the panel or disable it all together?

To change this, fire up Control Center. Once Control Center is running:

1.) click on the "+" next to Desktop
2.) from the expanded menu, click on Panels
3.) Now look at the right hand side of the Control Center. You should see 3 tabs across the top: Arrangement, Hiding and Menus.

4.) Click on the Menus tab. On the bottom section of the screen you should see a "QuickStart Menu Items" section. Of the two radio buttons, choose the lower one and then adjust the number of entries to show ( 0 or more).

While this wont technically clear the entries, it does allow you control of how many show.

Isn't that in Mandrake?
If not, where is it in Red Hat 9?

Mandrake may be the same, but the above IS from RH9. Are you using KDE or Gnome? The above is for KDE, have no idea where the settings are in Gnome.
