open query from 2005 linked server to analysis server 8 source

Cannot create an instance of
OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server

This error is being a bugger for me today. I can run open queries against a linked server connection to a Analysis Server on 2000.

But when I when I try to migrate the linked server definitions to 2005, the open queries fail.

BTW, I think this is because the linked server on 2005 only has relevant provider of OLE DB Analysis Server 9.0....but I actually want to connect to 8.0

anybody seen or heard of this??
