open ppt in ie 5.5

i need to open a few powerpoint-presentations from my website. the ppt-files are linked. working with netscape a dialogue will be opened to ask if i want to "open" or "save" the file.
clicking on the link with ie 5.5 results in a error message. - is there a workaround?
