Open Photoshop 7 takes forever

When opening up Photoshop 7.0 it seems to hang up on Tool Preferences and take forever to open the program. Does anyone know what causes this and how I can speed up opening Photoshop 7.0?

It's not a question anyone has a definative answer to straight away.

To begin, can you tell us about your PC?

how much memory
how much free disk space
when was the last time you did a disk cleanup and defragment
have you looked in task manager to see if you can problems
have you tested for virus'
does this only happen with photoshop
when did you last reboot
etc., etc.

It may be trial and error but you need to start somewhere.

All of the things you listed are eliminated. It hangs up on Tool Preferences so I was hoping that would be a big clue to someone out there.

You didn't mention your OS. Photoshop 7 is pretty old and may not be all that compatible with your os.

It's always a good idea to trash your Photoshop Preferences occasionally. They can get messed up and trashing them keeps things clean.

I'll agree with jmgalvin to reset the preferences.

While holding down [ CTRL + Alt + Shift ]

Start Photoshop
Answer the question to delete the preferences file YES
