Hi all,
I have just installed Open Office 2 and tried to create my first DB on OO :D
well, no luck there! When i try to create a table (or anything else in that matter) I get this error message:

"OpenOffice.org requires a Java runtime envroment (JRE) to perform this task. Please install a JRE and restart OpenOffice.org"

I did that, i downloaded the JRE from the java.sun website, but no luck. I am still getting the message as before.

the rest of the programs work OK, the problem is on the Base. any help pls?
thanks

You have to tell OOo to use the Java you installed. It's in the Options dialogue under OpenOffice.org -> Java.

u mean under Tools->Options->OpenOffice.org->Java, right?
i found it, clicked the Add button, choose the directory where i installed the java but i get an error message:
"the folder you selected doesnt contain a Java runtime enviroment. Please select a different folder"
should i just reinstall it?

by the way i am using Win 98, in case it makes any difference
thanks

Did you pick the right directory? It should be something like "c:\program files\java\j2re1.4.2_05". Windows 98 should be OK.

I choosed the instalation dir my self, so i am prety sure it is the right one. Do u think there might b a problem with the version of the JRE?

The directory being specified should have something like the following contents:
bin
javaws
lib
CHANGES
COPYRIGHT
LICENSE
LICENSE.rtf
...
PATCH.ERR
README.txt
THIRDPARTYLICENSEREADME.txt
Welcome.html

The JRE should be fine if it's a recent Sun version.

OK, it seems that i have the wrong file downloaded fom the sun web site. even though the file is called "jre-1_1_8_010-windows-i586" When i install it i only get this:
Bin
Lib
Changes.
copyright.
Licence.
Readme.
The last four are files, with no extension as i see it.
I tried to find the gile u mentioned, j2re1.4.2_05, from the sun website, but didnt managed to, could u tell me where is it?
thanks
