I finally got windows XP and noticed that image files are opened with Picture and Fax Viewer by default. I didn't like this new program too much, so I decided to make Internet Explorer the defautl viewer for image files. However, images are not opened in the same window, a new instance of internet explorer is opened to display another picture I just clicked on. The rehuse same window option does not work. Anybody know how to solve this problem with internet explorer in windows xp? Thanks!

What file types do you have the issue with?

You might not be able to work around this issue.

Well, .gif and .jpg file types, though I think my problem is more of a internet explorer thing. In windows 98 I could open all images I want in one IE windows. Damn picture and fax viewer! :S

A .zip file, if once uncompressed, offered a .reg file to set the XP setting back to their defaults.

Use Irfanview:
What you want is less painless viewing of image objects, rather than force IE to do it all, as it cannot without its standard viewers.

Replace them with irfanview. freewware.

Sounds interesting, I'll try it, thanks. One question, does it resize the pic size like picture and fax viewer does?

Yes, it does. And a lot of other things as well.
Recommended.
