I need some advice. Is open file option a reliable and safe option to use on backups? Has anyone had a successfull restore from this type of backup. Our backup jobs skips over open files so I am just wondering if open file option is reliable.
Thanks in advance.
I had some tough times with the OFO from Veritas - particularly with the remote agent hanging servers. I am running BUE in a Netware 5.1 environment so YMMV and all that..
The OFM is a 3rd party app so support is somewhat limited IME. I wound up doing an upgrade to St. Bernard's open file manager and it works really well (well = fast and reliable around here). I have restored from these backups with no problems to date. The real acid test would be to restore a database of some sort I suppose (where a collection of files has a "state" to it that must be maintained) I have not had to restore a DB from a production backup. I still shut things down for any critical backup jobs.. old habits and all that.

OFO cannot backup transactional databases (SQL, Exchange, Oracle).
Veritas wrote their own version of OFO for Backup Exec 9.0 which was just released. This will eliminate a lot of the stupid errors encountered with 8.x which used OTM technology for OFO.
