open file from File menu

There is an autocad user in our building who used to be able to open ACAD files from the file menu within the program. It used to then give a window where one could browse for the file...the same as using Open from any other program like Word or Excel. However recently, when she goes to File > Open, it expects her to type the file path/name down at the bottom in the command window. How does she get the window back that allows her to browse for a file?

She needs to set the FILEDIA system variable back to "1", by doing just that, typing "filedia" then "1".
