First of all, my question is about Symantec Recovery Solution and the OFM driver. I know this is an NBU site, but I need general backup expertise, and I'm hoping to convert my customer to NBU....
I need to know if RS has the ability to backup SQL and Exchange databses WITHOUT shutting down or detaching the databases. It appears that the manual states that it absolutely cannot be done. I have a customer that has been doing it for years. We did a test restore of an exchange mailstore and the analysis tools said that it was definitely corrupt.
Backups are done using OFM with the databases in a live state with a fair amount of transactions during the process.
I need some concrete proof to tell them that they cannot trust open file backups on live databases. I assume due to the fact that the database dependency files, logs, stm files, etc will not stay in sync as the files get backed up linearly.
Can I get an expert to chime in. All responses are greatly appreciated...
