open excel file through explore

I have a problem opening an excel file by going to c drive
and then double click on the file. It won't open. But when I have an excel program open, then go to file open the the file name, then it work. Can someone let me know why that is the case? Please help

Look at Tools/Options... on the General tab and make sure that "Ignore other applications" is not checked.

goto> my computer>Tools>Folder Options >file Type
search for the .xls extention and double check if Excel is selected as program file, (Check under the advance tab that the excel.exe location is correct)

Last thing to be aware of is if you use MSQuery. Once you run a query, for some reason, excel won't open files from explorer until you close and restart it. Havn't found a fix yet Rgds
