open corrupted xml file?

I have many xml files that seem to have been corrupted down the line somewhere. The first half opens ok, but the rest is full of characters such as 䄁

úÚuuÅ
Q‚P5-THAN~1.HTM
DIRB
/7úàU¨Œ“U¨Œ“

I have opened in:

notepad: very bad
wordpad: better but still bad
dreamweaver: managed 1 third text
word (recover text any file): opened half

Does antone have any ideas?
