I'm using Win 2000 server as a file server with 20 clients. Now i'm planned to use Open BSD as a server to connect all my win2000 user to the internet.Does anyone know where i can find the tutorial how to set the BSD server? thanx
I almost forgot. My Win2K act as DHCP server with Ip address 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 with domain name server1.com. OBSD using IP 192.168.0.5/255.255.255.0 and i assign the domain name with default 'my.domain'(from installation proccess). Should i use different domain name for the BSD or join the Win2K domain?
First of all make a test installation first start with something like a small network connected to the internet lets say 1 OpenBSD box an one w2000 (pro) so you can get the hang off it. OpenBSD is complex but when you get the hang off it it is such an elegant sytem.
Take for instance the install.
You just need 2 small downloads and an internet connection download : -fdimage.exe (for win2000)
-floppy33.fs (wich is the install image)
Start-->Execute--> fdimage floppy33.fs a:
And you now have made a one disk installation for OpenBSD
Interesting reading is:
OpenBSD 3.3 Installation Guide
Find the part where the:
filesystems for /, /tmp, /var, /usr, and /home
is involved it is an importent security isue in OpenBSD Install
You will have to know some things from your ISP
like dns and gateway this is needed during install to make connection with ftp-site
I like using : ftp.nl.net
Since i live in the Netherlands
But any way once that is done read also the FAQ afterinstall on this site. It's just a lot of command line instructions but when you search the net on
For example you will find some info on what it will configure or install. The configs I have done came to me recommended by a friend so I like them but there are more ways to Rome.
So good luck and pop a question i come here once a week or so, so don't be i a hurry but i repply some times.
