open a password protected doc.

Is there a way to open or even view read only an excel file that has been password protected. so that you have to know the password to even open it?

Yes, do a File > SaveAs and hit the Options button. There is a Password to Open field that you can fill in.

no, it is already password protected. i want to open it.

OH, sorry about that. Unfortunately, you will need the password. If it is critical, there are several companies that you can find on the net that have programs to crack the password. I am not sure what they charge for this service, but it is available.
