How can I force an Excel (or other Office) download to open up in Excel proper rather than "framed" [not sure of the terminology here] in IE 5.
Ideally I would like to force this via the web page itself, ie something in the HTML/VBA/Javascript, but if there is a setting that can be changed that will solve the problem also.

You have to change this in the file association for Excel. In Windows Explorer go to Folder Options (depending which OS you are using). Go to File Types. Locate the file association for Microsoft Excel Worksheet and click on EDIT. Uncheck the option "Browse in the same window" and that should open Excle files outside of the browser.

jmcg,

I hope joegz's suggestion works, it appears easier than these:

Availability of Microsoft Office Document Open Confirmation Tool (Q238918)

Summary: Microsoft has released the Microsoft Office Document Open Confirmation Tool. This tool can be used to help protect you by always requiring confirmation before opening any of the following Microsoft Office document types in Internet Explor

Office Documents Open in Internet Explorer (Q162059)

Summary: When you click a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) link to a Microsoft Office file (such as a Microsoft Excel document), Internet Explorer may open the file in Internet Explorer, instead of opening the file in the appropriate Office program.

Thanks reghakr & joegz, think I will go with the simple solution from joegz.
Cheers
