Can anyone tell me what i should be opening a cap. file with ?

I've tried note book, text and word but when they open it's gobbldegook.

Tried saving all 3 options in the record set up. But what ever i open with it's not really eligble.

1 write text as appears on screen.
2 write filtered text with no emulations escapes.
3 write raw text including all escapes.

I guess it's something i should get, but i'm still scrating my head on this.

It should be a text file, but if you use write raw text it may be full of the various escape sequences that Procomm receives and interprets. I always use write text as it appears on screen.

If you play the capture file back in Procomm using the File | Start File Playback menu item, does it display correctly?

I'll try it out and let you know.

Thanks Knob.

OK tried it, I can now see the info clearly as you said, but it only saved the last page. I need to save all the pages (7). Even in play back i could only see the last page.

cheers,

lever.

I'm the system repaints the screen instead of scrolling the data off the top of the screen, then the information does not get saved into the scrollback buffer or the capture file. If you clear the screen (either by using the Clear Screen button or the screen command in ASPECT), then the current screen will be forced into the scrollback buffer.

is a script that was used in version 3.x to capture screens that did not scroll. It compiles fine in version 4.8, but I have never used it myself.

I also use some equipment that updates this way. I have not yet tried the script that Knob refers to and am starting my weekend now so I'll try it in two days.

However a manual method of getting screen data into a capture file is:

1. Open capture file with "As it appears on screen" mode.
2. Display screen to save.
3. Close capture file.

4. Open capture file again with "Do not overwrite existing data box checked.
5. Display next screen.
6. Close capture file.

7. Repeat steps 4-6 for each additional screen.

This will work but is obviously a pain. Hopefully the script works.

Notepad is what I usually associate with the .cap files.

One other method you can use is have the snapshot command save the first screen to a file, then use the snapshot command with the append flag on subsequent screens.
