Opacity for a button?

Does anyone know if you can adjust the opacity for an imported jpg in the button frames? I.E. For the "over" frame, usually I would select "Modify" then "instance" so that I can change the alpha to like 30% or something, but the "instance" option under the "modify" menu is not available, even though it's been converted into a button symbol. Does anyone know what's wrong?

You need to turn the jpeg into a symbol and then drag that onto the frames (states) of the button. It should work if you do that. roda B-)
