Hi everyone!

I need your expertise on this. Curently, we are using Informix 7.31 and we have a database that is 12.8 GB. We tried to backup the data using the onunload command but we can not restore it on another machine. We found out that data using this command is not portable. We tried using dbexport but it seems like it has a limitation. We only have a DDS3 tape which has a capacity of 12 GB.

I was informed that we can use the ontape or onbar command. I am not familiar with these commands. Please help me on how to use these two commands.

Thanks so much.

I suggest you to use onbar - because with this command you can use the ISM from Informix as Storage Manager. It is a little bit configuration workload, but better for Backup/Recovery.
Otherwise for a one time solution you can use ontape.
You may find an admin guide for ISM here:

regards
Uwe
