i'm using informix to do backup.
I wonder how to check the size of backup ontape -s, because 1.I always received message tape full at 70%
2. How can i reduce the size of backup for unnesessary log file if any.
3. How do i reconfigure my tape parameter if i'm want to use bigger size of tape.ie from 4gb to 12 gb.

thanks.

Hi,

ontape utility uses the following parameters from the $INFORMIXDIR/etc/$ONCONFIG for archiving online data.

ontape -s uses:
TAPEDEV /dev/rmt/0m # Tape device path
TAPEBLK 512 # Tape block size (Kbytes)
TAPESIZE 8000000 # Maximum amount of data to put on tape (Kbytes)

ontape -a uses:
LTAPEDEV /dev/rmt/0m # Log tape device path
LTAPEBLK 512 # Log tape block size (Kbytes)
LTAPESIZE 8000000 # Max amount of data to put on log tape (Kbytes)

You may increase/decrease the tape size values according to the actual size available at your end.

Optionally, you may change these, using onmonitor (if available). onmonitor -> Archive -> Tape Parameters.

Shriyan
