I'm totally new to this program. What I want to do is cut out a sequence of an avi file and then save this cut as another file in whatever format. I found out how to bring in the source file, but when I bring it down to the timeline, it only brings down the video part, there is noe audio anywhere. How can I bring in the audio that excists within the source-avi?

How are you getting the clip onto the timeline?

If you drag from the project or clip window, you should get both video and audio linked.

If you use the clip window tools, you can toggle video, audio or both.

To get the clip out into a new file, use one of the File/Export options. If you only want to export part of the occupied timeline, set the work area bar over the export segment and select 'work area' rather than 'whole project' in the export settings.

I see it works fine with most files, but not this particular one. Does this work like WinAmp etc, where the program needs the right codecs installed? If so, how should I install them?

Ah! What CODEC is your problem clip using? If the audio is in MP3, that might explain the problem. Convert to WAV or other compatible. Virtual Dub (freeware) is a good tool for video conversions.

Helpful if you give all relevant info at the start of a thread!
