Hello guys
I upgraded my nw5 server to sp6 a while ago, but I didn´t upgrade the LAN drivers (or maybe they were refered to as TCP/IP drivers). Now I´m having trouble when I run backup with Arcserve 7.0. The backups locally on the nw5 box works fine, but when I try to backup from another server (NW6 or NW5.1) I get "Error 3015 connection lost". I´m starting to think this might have something to do with me not updating the LAN drivers, what do you guys think ?

So my question is: Is there any way of only updating the LAN/TCPIP drivers on NW5 box without running the whole sp6 installation again ?

what lan driver is it using ?

you can just download them without the sp

The CA TIDs I have seen on this error recommend upgrading the LAN/TCPIP drivers so it may be a course of action to take.

You could also disable the Arcserve estimate as well by editing the ASCONFIG.INI as follows:

change from
[NetWare Backup/Restore]
DisableEstimate=FALSE; default is FALSE
to
[NetWare Backup/Restore]
DisableEstimate=TRUE; default is FALSE

"It's true, its damn true!"

I have tried disabling the estimate but that didn´t help so I guess the LAN drivers are the next step.

How can I find out which LAN drivers I should download and which files should I replace ?

the line in the autoexec that loads the nic

ie if it's a compaq/hp then it will be a n100 or a q57

what type of server is it

It´s an old compaq proliant 800.
So which is the easiest way of getting the updated LAN drivers ? Extracting sp6 for nw5 and taking the files I need from there or do you have another suggestion ? How do I know which files are need to be replaced ?

The best way is to download the latest Compaq Support Pack for NetWare from the HP website. This will have all of the latest LAN drivers in it. The link below should take you to the right place:

the old 800's propably have a netflex it it
these drivers havent been updated for years

but it's worth an nssd as link above

When I check inetcfg it appears that the nic is CPQNF3_1 ?
This is what it loads:
LOAD CPQNF3_1_E83 FRAME=ETHERNET_802.3 SLOT=10007
LOAD CPQNF3_1_EII FRAME=ETHERNET_II SLOT=10007

And there are a bounch of more lines too...

But is it possible to extract the files needed for updating the lan drivers from for example NW5SP6a and manually replacing them on the server, so I know exactly which files to replace again if it doesn´t work with the updated files ?

If it is just the CPQNF3 driver you want, download it from the Compaq/HP website.

But how can I find out which files are related to the lan upgrade so I can change them back if it doesn´t work ?

The only two files you will need to change to upgrade the LAN drivers are CPQNF3.LAN and CPQNF3.LDI. Since you have already applied SP6 for NetWare, you should not need to upgrade any other drivers.

I set up a test server and did what you suggested, the result was that when the server had finished booting I wasn´t able to get into it through the network, only through the console.

Lets say I would try something like this on the server at work and I got the same result. How would I go about to replace the 2 files I replaced in the first place through the console ?

/Dan
