How do I get a report to print text fields that only have data in them AND have the detail lines shrink if there is no data, so as not to have gaps in the printed output.

Hi

On each control that can shrink, set the "CanShrink" property to True.
If there are labels next to the controls, you need to put some code in the report for that group or detail line that sets the Visible property to False if the data is NULL.
