Hi all,

Quite suddenly I am getting the following message for any user other than root logging into the system:

ld.so.1: internal: malloc failedKilled

The first part is actually in the man pages and is the runtime linker for dynamic objects (located in /usr/lib and /etc/lib). I assume this is some memory error.

How do I solve it so my users can log into the system again? Nothing changed, the problem just "surfaced" suddenly. Please help! Thanks in advance.

if root can do something noone else can then there are incorrect permissions somewhere ... :)

log in as root and do an:

ls -l /usr/lib/ld.so.1

and tell us the answer :)

Thanks guys. As it turned out the permissions and owner of the /dev directory was in fact incorrect (the link provided the solution). The junior SA was adding a printer to the system and must have accidentally changed the directory settings.

Thanks again, I hope I can return the favour sometime :)
