only boots to safe mode

The PC will boot to safe mode only. when it boots up you get the options to boot to normal, safe etc. however when you chose normal mode it will kick you back to that same screen to chose from. it just boots to safe mode.

when did this start happening....had you installed any hardware or software just before it started happening?

Nothing to my knowledge was installed on it.
I have reformated the hard drive. It still does the same thing. :-(

So you formatted the drive. Did Windows fully install, and more importantly, if it did install, did you make changes?

More than likely, its a hardware problem.
Any recent problems or errors before this started?

It could be anything, video card, ram, cpu, mainboard, power supply, misbehaving peripheral. You might try disconnecting all exterior peripherals, and reseating all cards and cables.
