Hi,

We are having a problem in Outlook 97 and 2000 where users can only delete one email at a time. Outlook is connected to Exchange 5.5 on NT 4, with all the latest service packs. Does anyone know anything about this issue?

Thanks,
Dan

Highlight several of the emails and hold the shift key and press delete.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

Yes, if you hold down control or shift to select many emails and press delete, the machine just freezes, and this is happening on every machine.

Any ideas?

Do a ping -t on the mail server to see if you lose some packets? I would go ahead and get rid of Outlook 97 and upgrade all to 2000. Run the Detect and Repair on the Outlook 2000 machines.

The anti virus is McAfee Netshield. We don't lose any packets when pinging the server. V odd! Any ideas?

Outlook freezes totally, and becomes unresponsive, and the messages don’t get deleted eventually. You can’t move multiple messages to a different folder, as it has the same effect and crashes the system as well. Any more ideas?

Thanks a lot for your help,
Dan

Are you using Groupshield 5.0 for Exchange 5.5 on the server also?

If so, ensure you have GroupShield 5.0 SP2 installed and use the ESE Scan method.

The groupshield is fully uptodate. We disabled groupshield and netshield on the server but we still have the problem. We even disabled the anti virus on the workststions, but it still freezes. Any more ideas?

Thanks a lot,
Dan

Dan,

What hardware setup is running the Exchange server? COuld you be maxing out the resources? What about the net connection (local or wan, 10 or 100)

We had similar issues with our older client machines and resolved it with both an upgrade of the Outlook to 2000 and with upgrade of the server hardware.

The server was maxing out on memory usage (started at 128m moved to 512 and then to 1G for best result). We also had a drive space and performance issue that we resolved by adding extra SCSI's and seperating the data stores.

This is working for us, we run NAV 8.0 but exclude the data stores and temp files, it only scans the system files. NAV for Exchange 5.5 is running to protect the messages.

My 2c,
JAB

We've fixed it! We run a defrag on the Exchange Information store, which almost HALVED the size of the database, and it now seems to work! Yay!

Thanks for all your help people!
