Why does my server not allow .htm file extensions?
It seems to only allow .html extensions

You didn't say what you are running your server under. My guess is if you are running under linux, you could check your /etc/mime.types file and look for a line that says "text/html html htm". If you only have html on that line then add htm. If you are running under windows or NT, then I'm not sure where apache keeps the mime.types file but I'm sure you could do a search. hope this helps

optimised: you need to edit your httpd.conf file. it is most likely in /etc/httpd/conf dir. use your text editor and open httpd.conf <I prefer pico>. make sure @ the line that says DirectoryIndex that the line looks like so:

DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.shtml index.php index.php4 index.php3 index.cgi

if it does not say index.htm then add it to the line and restart the daemon. /etc/init.d/httpd restart

This is in the case that when you try to pull up a default page fron your url that it is not accessing the file because you are using an .htm ext.
