OK, I'm a newbie so please excuse my ignorance... I have a problem with a small network I've inherited.

I've added a new printer (an HP Officejet 7210) and only the Administrator can print to it.

I installed the CD that came with the printer on the server. It complained that 2003 was not supported but I carried on anyway and it seemed to go just fine. I shared the printer and it appears in Server Management under Printers and in the directory. I can print a test page from any workstation as long as I'm signed in as Administrator. If I set up the printer under a standard User account nothing prints and I get no error message on the workstation. When I look at the print queue on the sever, the job is there but in an error state.

Everyone has permission to print when I look at the Security tab of the printer driver.

What am I doing wrong? It sounds like it should be fairly simple to fix (a policy or permissions issue?) but I've spent hours on it with out success.

I'm not sure if this is relevant but this is the first time that a printer has been connected direct to the LAN. The old printer ran via a Netgear printserver with parallel ports.

Any help gratefuly received!!!

You should never install a network printer by running the setup CD that comes with the printer. The error message wasn't lying. They often install all kinds of extra applications that interfere with the printing. If the server is even capable of being properly support on a Win2k3 server, then try the following:

Delete the printer, uninstall the driver CD and any apps it included. Then add the printer by using the Windows add printer wizard. When the time comes, browse to the folder on the CD where just the driver files are. Or, you can also try downloading the latest ones for your model at hp.com
