i'm running the dell optiplex g1/350 Mhz processor, 2556mb of ram, with their onboard video port. i downloaded their floppy installation set, and it says i have a standard pci graphics adapter. i also downloaded the driver file from gateway for their ev700 monitor. it is installed and shows up in the device manager correctly.
i am stuck at 640x480 16 colors.
i have uninstalled and reinstalled several times on both of these drivers, tried different drivers, and even tried to let windows do the job for me. this is a fresh reinstall of windows 98c.
this same set of hardware was working for graphics before this install.

Boot into safe mode and remove all entries under display adapter (probably have more than one). Reboot into Normal mode and let Windows detect and reinstall the drivers, using the ones you received from Dell's website. Do not let it choose "standard pci adapter". Make it search for the correct driver from the ones you downloaded.

You don't need to worry about the 'monitor type'. The video card driver is what's limiting you to 16 colors.

ALos It is safe to use the Intel Graphics driver from their site. It works on almost every PCI chipset imaginable. Worked fo rme and I can now run all modes and all colors. Just go the link below and select your operating system to download the driver for that O/S.
