I have posted this to another board, but thought I would add it here I am desperate!

Hello,

I realized that this may be the place for primarily professionals, so I won't take up too much of your time. I have a problem and if anyone can fix it, I would be eternally grateful!

2 weeks ago I had a new motherboard and graphics card installed. They worked fine. A week later the F5 button got stuck and I was put in safe mode(I didn't know.) The colors also changed to 16 colors and a resolution of 640X480. I tried everything to get out of safe mode until I realized the button was stuck. When I unstuck it, I was once again out of safe mode, but the colors/resolution didn't change. I tried to change them under control panel/display/settings. It showed me changing the settings, but no changes occured on the screen, or when I restarted the computer. I have reloaded the driver for the graphics card. I have checked to see if I have a monitor under 'color management' under the advanced button under control panel/display/settings. It shows a monitor but no color profile. Could this be a problem? I have tried everything I can think of. I need to have full color so I can run my business. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. I am at the end of my rope!

run regedit from the run console and change these settings ONLY!

hkey_local_machine\config\0001\display\settings\BitsPerPixel to 8 for 256 colours or 16 for high colour or 16-bit color (24 for 24-bit, and 32 for 32-bit color).
and
hkey_local_machine\config\0001\display\settings\Resolution to 800,600 or 1024,768 or what ever resolution you want.

Also check whether your monitor isn't set to something like Standard VGA 640x480.

I think the best option would be to remove the display adapter card and reinstall it (Right Click My computer, select properties, select Display Remove and Refresh).

Make sure you have the right Driver CD or floppy before you proceed with the above operation.

My 2cent. You need the correct display drivers for you card. Check your restoration CD, or the card's site.

follow mganesh's advice...

end users messing with the registry is not a good idea, klae...

a new motherboard and video card, so whatever would be on the "restoration CD" probably wouldn't work...

in my opinion, mganesh has the right idea.... Shane
and now for the impressive abbreviations:
DOA, SOL, AWOL, PEBKAC, id10t, FUBAR
