My server was just delivered from Dell. Surprisingly, it has only 10GB on system driver where the rest of 1TB is in 2 big partition. How could I cope with such a small system drive?

1. Some has suggested to move Doc & Settings to D:\. How can I do that?

2. I am also concerned with Program Files folder. Some application will dump a lot of stuff in its Common subfolder. Any way to relocate these folders?

Thanks!

If it's not in production, why not just rebuild it? It only takes a few minutes with the Dell CD.

But the big question is, you have the OS and Data partitions carved out of the same drives?!

A SINGLE hard drive? That's certainly not something that would be recommended.

What do you expect is going to use that disk space? Really? 10 GB is more than enough in my opinion. When managed appropriately.

Think about it - what is this server doing? What are you going to be installing on it that takes so much disk space? Why will the space used grow? Don't be reactionary and assume that you just need more space. Look at this logically and (unless this is a terminal server), you'll find 10 GB is more than enough space.

What to move and how to move it? See:

It's bought for a lab with 30 people, expecting about 5 people logged on at the same time. Standard office suite and graphics applications. I don't think it's enough with Program Files and Document & Settings on C:\

How so? Is this a terminal server? If so, there are ways around that, including proper TS profile management.

If this is just a file/print/DC, then the Documents & Settings folder is a moot point, since they wouldn't be creating profiles on that server.
