cause sudden system shutdown. NAV onboard can't detect a problem. Thought I had it isolated to C:/Windows/i386 folder. Nope! Klez??? This thing has me pulling my hair out! Has anybody else seen this happen? Have an idea of the prob? Sys hijacker? C2Lop?
Are you infected with klez? If so, download the removal tool and boot to safe mode. Run it there.
If you're just not sure, update your virus scanner, boot to safe mode, and scan there. Make sure that in options, under manual scan, all exclusions are removed. Also, turn off system restore if you are running xp (right click my computer and hit properties, go to system restore tab)
The point... Some bug is likely terminating these processes, booting to safe mode will allow you to operate bug process free.
You can also run spybot in safe mode.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
Thanks for the tip. I downloaded the Klez removal tool from Norton and ran it, but it said Klez was not found. This thing just kills all power any time I run certain scans. This happens when I run online virus scans, Spybot S&D, reghealer, and when I try to remove Spybot via Cleansweep (cleansweep does a scan too, prior to removal. The reason for removing Spybot is I set it to scan immediately any time it is started, which results in shutdown in the middle of the scan). CHKDSK runs all the way through, as does Ad-Aware. The Klez removal ran through fine, and onboard NAV runs through with no detections.
Im not knowledgeable enough to know if this is specifically your problem, but there is something out there that can sometimes shut down spybot and others when they try to run.
See note 2 in link above and tool he has for download.

Thanks for all the help. The direct link to CWShredder won't connect, so I did a google and went to a mirror. Got the program and it doesn't find anything, but... when I click on update, it connects, and just sits there. it has been fetching for 15 minutes now. Hmmm...
I might finally have a suspect.
Is there a way to manually update CWShredder, and a place to find the update (that I can connect to)?
