Online Resume Evaluations

Has anyone ever submitted a resume to the "free" evaluations you see on sites like job.com and others?

I'm constantly screwing around with mine and looking for ideas. I'm just wondering if the online evaluations are worthwhile or if they're just masked headhunter data gathering operations or hard-sell "sign with us" honeypots.

I haven't. I never really saw the point, since I've usually had good luck getting calls when I posted my resume.

Something that I always remember is that there's no such thing as free. There's always an angle somewhere. If the resume evaluations were valuable (aka, worthwhile) then they would be charging for them. They may be using them as a loss leader or a way to get you in the door to buy expensive resume marketing services. They may end up using your personal data for marketing purposes. They may just be a headhunter/staffing company looking for leads.

I did try one of these services. They made some good points but I could tell their real motivation was to sell me their resume writing service.
I thought the money would be better spent upgrading my computer and telephone. Especially since I hate Vista and have no desire to buy a new computer with that dog.
Total cost was about half of the resume writing service.

Our local job service has free resume evaluations with no strings attached. Real HR people volunteer their time. They've been really busy with all of the unemployment recently.

Most state employment service agencies (in USA) will have people that will work with you to make your resume presentable. There are times they even have job postings that aren't available to the public. Granted most are government type jobs, but you know the benefits will be good. (in most states).

And they're free. Typically.

And whatever you do, do not pay a service to write your resume. They tend to use the same language over and over and anyone who sees a lot of resumes can spot them instantly and often throws them out (as they tend to exaggerate and the information inthem can't be trusted).
