Hi,

New to ecommerce.

OK, I know that purchases made online can be paid via credit cards, debit cards, and PayPal.

But, how can an online purchase be paid for if the purchaser does not have any of the above? (Other than sending money via snail mail). Is there a system where the consumer can purchase a temporary online credit card for say $50, much like a temporary phone card from 7-11?

Just go to the store, purchase the card, then use the card to complete an online purchase.

I'm thinking about the little guy in "nowhere USA" that doesn't have the credit/debit cards or a bank account/PayPal, and refuses to send money via snail mail.

Any thoughts?

Western Union? But do you really want this person as a customer? What would you sell to him/her?

We have about 3% of our customers that mail in a check or money order. While we could live without the 3%, we find that many of them are repeat buyers, since most of our competitors don't take checks/money orders.

If someone has a checking account, the alternative is to do a "check by phone" or "e-check" (brand names vary).

If they don't have a checking account or a credit card and don't want to mail a money order - they really can't expect to buy online.

If he is from Nowhere, USA or Nowhere, India or Nowhere, Germany it's OK, but if he doesn't have a credit card, doesn't have a checking account and can't get a money order or postal MO, well, he just might not be able to afford your product. I don't see how he could have afforded the computer. Maybe he went to the library.

I would check out "e-checks" But if they don't have a bank account or a credit card. they would not be able to purchase a temporary credit card online anyways(if one existed). i know visa has cards where you can put money on when you feel like it. but these types of people are very afraid of security and you will not be able to find a way to make them pay for your product. The only thing that i can suggest is to make your site extremely secure.
