Does anyone know if the WIC ports in a 3745 support Online-Insertion? For example, I want to install a WIC-2T card with the router on in WIC slot 2 (s0/2) with the power on and router running. Cisco's site is just not providing any help on this question, but from what I can tell the 3745 routers seem to only allow Online-Insertion of NM cards (Network-Modules) like the NM-2FE2W, but not WIC-2T cards in the NM-2FE2W with router being powered on.

Can anyone confirm this? Especially if you just did it with power on and what the results were.

Thanks.

I tried that in the past on a 3725 and ... router crashed...

Yeah, I was afraid of that. I looked all over Cisco and tried Google with no results either way. Usually thats a pretty good indication that they don't do it. I know for a fact the network modules are hot-swap, but I'm not sure if you can hot-swap the WIC's in the network-modules or not. If I find out for sure, which I am sure to do sometime soon I will let you know.

I've never seen where is't OK to hot-swap the WICs. The ones that I have indicate that you can't, or maybe that's printed on the slot cover.

Hi

You CAN hot-swap network modules but NOT WICs. So, if you need to swap a WIC, remove the NM it is on, Fit the WIC, re-insert the NM.

Of course, if the WIC is in a chassis slot, you have to power down the router first.
