Online Exchange backup using Arcserve 2000

I have been having trouble doing an online backup. I keep getting the following message.

E8602 Failed to read from database. (DBNAME=Information Store. EC=Backup Agent Error
- (69) "Read/Write error in named pipes.".)

At first a simple restart of the exchange server would correct it for a couple of weeks. But now I am lucky if I get one good online backup. The exchange server is on a Compaq ML370. Ver5.5 as of last weekend SP4

I have run isinteg sometimes shows errors sometimes not.

which seemed to help, but again, worked for a couple of weeks, then seems to get progressively shorter.

I reinstalled the CA Exchange agent

Any suggestions?

It seems that you are installing the Agent but you have to configure it to work.

I have followed those directions twice. The online backup was working ok, but since this error first appeared, everything I try to do seems to fix it. However the problem keeps coming back.
